In Shakespeare's day, the actor's got sides or cue scripts, not full scripts. This exercise comes from the work of Professor Hal Ryder. After introducing the basic elements of the text for the actor, each actor is given a cue script. They are not to read the play, they are not to work with their scene partner. They work on their own and with the teacher discovering character and intention from the text. They memorize the lines and cues and the first time they meet their scene partner is when they perform for the entire class. Included are a brief introduction to the material students need prior to the sides and 11 scenes written as individual sides.
